A solid, proven design, backed by high quality components and a detailed manual make this kit very easy to assemble. The clock features the side view Z573M/Z574M Nixie tube, with 13mm high digits and a beautiful red contrast filter to enhance the sharpness of the display. A multitude of adjustable features enable the user to tailor their clock to their own needs. Features include: date and time display, 12/24 mode, cross-fading digits, scrolling display, brightness control, automatic Daylight Saving Time adjustment, digit cycling, cathode poisoning prevention and software time correction.

The tubes are directly driven using high voltage driver ICs. This ensures solid, flicker-free operation. The high voltage needed to run the tubes is generated on board, using an efficient DC to DC converter, there are no line voltages to handle.

The heart of the clock is a pre-programmed Micro-Controller, driven by a highly accurate TCXO (Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator) and backed up by a high power capacitor, it can withstand power outages of 8 hours without losing time. The backup capacitor never needs replacing.

Features include a digit cycling option, which is used to cycle digits in various patterns. The cycling feature can be configured to run at midnight, every hour, or every minute. The cycling that runs every minute is much like a slot machine, and can be configured to cycle in 4 different patterns. The digits can also be setup to stop cycling in 4 different configurations: left to right, right to left, all at once or randomly. Not only does this option make for an interesting display, ecpecially because of the 3D nature of the tube, but it also helps to prevent cathode poisoning.

A seperate cathode poisoning prevention feature is also offered. This option will cycle all digits of the clock, for a certain amount of time, to help prevent poisoning.

In addition to being able to dim the tubes from 10 to 100%, the user also has the option of timed dimming. This feature can be used to dim or completly turn off tubes for a duration of time every day. This is useful in case the brightness of the display at night time is bothersom and also helps preserve tube life. You can configure up to 4 distinct dimming times. This option is also weekday aware, and can be setup to dim or turn off the tubes during certain days of the week.

The kit includes everything required to assemble the clock. 6 Z573M/Z574M nixie tubes, high voltage driver ICs, microcontroller, DC adapter (110v), etc. User supplies their own custom case to complete the project. A detailed assembly and owners manual, complete with schematic and mounting dimensions, is included. All digits on all tubes are tested for proper operation, as well as all the outputs on the HV driver ICs, this assures your kit will work right the first time. Board size is 5.6" x 2.5".

Because of its small size, this kit is also suitable for use with other tube types mounted off board. The High Voltage DC converter is able to supply 25ma, sufficient for almost any tube size. The kit is available without tubes for this specific purpose.

Clock includes a 110v input, 9v DC output 500ma, AC adapter. This can be ommited if desired.
Note: Kit contains 6 surface mount components (larger 1206 type, about 3/4 the size of a regular resistor, not too diffcult to solder), these can be pre-soldered for a small fee if needed.

The assembled unit should be properly encased to prevent contact with high voltages.

Warranty

Neonixie warranties the components in this kit to be free from defects for a period of 90 days from the date of purchase. Defective components will be replaced at our cost. If you suspect a component to be defective, please contact us for troubleshooting assistance and/or return instructions. Please do not return the whole kit. Kit cannot be refunded once assembly has begun. Cathode poisoning of unused digits is not a defect in the tube and is not covered under warranty. Please utilize the cathode poisoning prevention feature if you wish to maintain proper operation of unsed digits.
